It’s all about the small screen today! Yesterday, Australia’s Scherri-Lee Biggs competed in the Miss Universe pageant in Brazil while over one billion people tuned in to watch all around the world. We find how where she placed and who took out the crown.
After months of speculation, the rumours about the Sex and the City prequel have finally been confirmed and in other television goss, Australia’s The X Factor has gained the attention of an unlikely star… Yoko Ono! Read on for all the details.
Miss Universe
Yesterday in Sao Paulo, Miss Universe celebrated its 60th anniversary as an estimated more than one billion viewers tuned in to see it all unfold. Perth girl Scherri-Lee Biggs represented Australia in the pageant and was pegged as a favourite, even being dubbed the most beautiful face in the pageant.
Despite this, the 21-year-old didn’t take out the crown after falling out of the competition after the evening gown section. This means she made the top ten, which is still an incredible achievement for the Aussie.
The winner was a surprise to all, it was not Miss China or Miss USA who were Miss Australia’s biggest competitors, but Miss Angola, Leila Lopes.
25-year-old Lopes is a business student from the town of Benguela who will now be moving to Trump Towers in New York for 12 months to carry out her official duties as Miss Universe. She says she wishes to help fight AIDS and poverty with the title.
In the Q&A section of the competition, Lopes was asked what she might change about herself, to which she replied, “Thank God I’m very satisfied with the way God created me and I wouldn’t change a thing. I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family and I intend to follow these for the rest of my life.”
Sex and the City Prequel
After months of speculation about a new show and new films, it has finally been officially announced that the Sex and the City prequel, taken from Candace Bushnell’s prequel novel The Carrie Diaries, will be taking over the small screen.
We’re not going to lie; this initially made us nervous. Sex and the City is number one on so many people’s all-time favourite television shows list and to hear it’s being tampered with is cause for concern.
However, all hope is not lost. Jason Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the people behind The OC and Gossip Girl, are producing the show, and Amy Harris, the original Sex and the City writer and producer, will be in charge of the script. Given the talent and track record of fabulousness from these three, we’re feeling more hopeful that ever and, at the end of the day, nothing can take away from the SATC glory days!
Yoko Ono Thanks Aussie Singer
You just don’t expect someone as legendary as Yoko Ono to pay attention to shows like Australia’s The X Factor so we were more than a little surprised to here the famous musician publically praised contestant Emmanuel Kelly.
During his audition, Kelly stole the hearts of Australian’s with his incredible rendition of John Lennon’s Imagine. The Iraqi war survivor soon took over youtube and gained fans worldwide including none other than Yoko Ono. She posted a video of his performance on her website with the message, ‘Thank you Emmanuel. You sang beautifully! Thank you. John would have been proud of you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Love, yoko.”
In the gruelling boot camp episode, Kelly was booted out of the competition after forgetting his lyrics. Fans were outraged at his elimination but given Yoko’s praise and the fact that she tweeted the video to her 1,564,756 followers, we’re thinking Kelly’s going to be a success with or without The X Factor!
