Fashion trend expert Tony Bannister looks at the key trends on the New York runways for AW12 and picks the top 5 designers for the trend Texture Blocking. Tony shows how New York designers who experimented with colour and texture created some of the season’s best collections. Here are 5 of the best.
By Tony Bannister
BCBG spliced soft neutral tone with black and orange to create graphic combinations that floated over the body in sensual silks. Vibrant blues and greens were colour blocked with black in dramatic geometric patterns that elongated the silhouette.
Proenza Schouler were inspired by traditional Chinese costumes and symbols. Their collection combined laminated tweeds with jacquards, mesh and quilting in cropped spliced jackets and asymmetrical mini skirts. The “must haves” of the season
Reed Krakoff used head-to-toe colour as the starting point for his collection, introducing textural elements such as matt and shine, transparency and fur to create subtle plays on proportions.
Vera Wang created a beautiful feminine collection by mixing floating sheers with silk jacquards, embellishments and fur.
Preen designed elegantly simple dresses and used asymmetric cuts and fabric blocking to accentuate the lines of the body.
