For the 12th year running, Semi Permanent is headed to Sydney to inspire and celebrate creatives with workshops, exhibitions, and talks from some of the most expert names in the field.
This year, the festival announced an expansion to its line-up with a brand new venue, Carriageworks, and the addition of a third day.
WHAT: Semi Permanent Sydney 2014
WHERE: Carriageworks, Sydney
WHEN: 22 – 24 May 2014
The Highlights…
Tony Hawk and Corbin Harris
By far the most famous skateboarder in the world, Tony Hawk will be speaking to long-time friend and collaborator Corbin Harris about how he created and developed his brand, his multibillion-dollar video game franchise, and other business spanning apparel and toys.
Mike Mills
Film Maker behind the award-winning indie films Beginners (2011) and Thumbsucker (2005) will appear live from Los Angeles via video to share his story. Mills is best known for his work as a Film Director, but has also done significant graphic design work including creating album covers for Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys, and Air and is a regularly-exhibiting artist.
Mr Brainwash
Moniker of Los Angeles – based filmmaker and pop artist Thierry Guetta, Mr Brainwash is undoubtedly one of the most polarizing artists to come out of the past decade, and now he’s coming to Sydney to ask all the questions you’ve had. In addition to his presentation, which will be the last of the speakers, there will be a Mr Brainwash exhibition which they’re saying has to be seen to be believed.
Billy Sorrentino – WIRED
WIRED Magazine’s Creative Director, Billy Sorrentino, leads the brand’s four creative departments; design, photo, video, and production, and is responsible for cross-channel brand presence including print, desktop, digital editions, mobile and social media. Before WIRED, Sorrentino was the design director at Condé Nast’s Editorial Development Group, and was key in launching many digital editions for the mag-giant’s brands.
Melissa Bergin – CURVY Panel
As the Co-Founder of YEN Magazine, Dazed AuS/NZ, Muscle Up, the Woman of the Year Awards, and, of course, CURVY, there’s no doubt Sydney-based Melissa Bergin has one impressive CV. This year the gorgeous media mogul will be moderating the CURVY Q&A Panel with boundry-breaking female creative.
In addition, CURVY will be featured in the exhibiting space. Girl power doesn’t get better than this.
The inspiration doesn’t stop there — Semi-Permanent’s schedule is an impressive one with Producers, Creative Directors, Artists, Photographers, Animators, and more on board and ready to share their expertise.
