Derby Day Divas
Flemington Racecourse was a sea of monochrome on Saturday with the crowds decked out for one of the biggest days of the Spring Carnival.
All eyes were on international visitor Dita Von Teese and not just because she was one of the biggest stars at the carnival. The Burlesque beauty bucked the monochrome tradition in favour of a red asymmetrical dress from her Dita Von Teese Muse collection soon to be available in David Jones and an incredible red Philip Treacy hat. The lady in red was spotted making eyes at one of the window models Dylan Flannery and was later heard saying, “I can’t see him, has he arrived yet?” at the VIP after party. Von Teese recently split with French aristocrat boyfriend Louis Marie de Cartelbajac so it’s little surprise she’s enjoying a bit of fun!
Other celebrities on the day opted for the traditional black and white. Rachael Taylor wore a stunning cream Chanel dress, one of our favourites from the day, with a black headpiece.
Mel B showed off her animal instincts in a print dress. Fruche spokesperson and America’s Next Top Model star J Alexander switched between an incredible over-sized floral headpiece and a patent boater throughout the day.
Jennifer Hawkins looked lady-like in a fitted cream shirtsuit with simple black accessories while Australia’s Next Top Model Montana Cox opted for an almost Grecian-inspired white dress with an interesting angel headpiece.
Laura Dundovic, Hamish and Andy, Guy Sebastian, Ruby Rose, Jesinta Campbell, Ronan Keating and many more were also spotted enjoying the festivities.
Stars Stranded in Qantas Drama
The celebrity-addict in us panicked when we heard about the Qantas meltdown because we were all too aware of just how many celebs were flying into Australia this week. Luckily, celebs have the best of help and everyone has been booked on new flights.
Dita Von Teese was stuck in Melbourne slightly longer than planned but was able to get a seat on a United Airlines flight to LA.
Possibly the celeb visitor we’re most excited about, Sarah Jessica Parker, had to find an alternativeflight for herself and her personal entourage of seven! She is set to land in Melbourne today.
Kim and Khloe Kardashian are booked on a flight out of New York tonight and are keeping their fingers crossed that Qantas will be up and running in time. Luckily the sisters have arranged an alternative travel just in case. They need to be here for a party being held at Hugo’s in Kings Cross on Wednesday night.
It seems Joan Collins chose a different airline as her flight has not been affected. She is set to appear at Oaks Day Thursday and Sydney next Tuesday.
Celebrity Spotting at the Cup
All the top tents are ready for the big day and each has its own celebrity attendees. Sarah Jessica Parker will be in the Crown marquee along with Ann Peacock and Sass & Bide’s Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton.
Kim Kardashian is the guest of Swisse Vitamins and will appear in their day spa themed tent where healthy cocktails and much needed Liver Detox tablets will be served.
Joan Collins and Cadel Evans are also guests in the tent.
