Big spring occasions are a chance to break out the colour – after the muted palette of winter, a party here is an opportunity to indulge your rainbow side.
Pastels are still in for this season, but in cool shapes – scalloped-edge shifts, crisp pant-suits, immaculate floaty silk shirts.
Weddings are a great time to look chic – and the only no-go colours are generally white and black, though the bride and groom might not care.
If you really want to put in effort, find out what her colour scheme is. If it’s bold and bright, get yourself into sharp shapes and full-on colour; if it’s soft and muted, follow the mood.
We love maxi-dresses for weddings- they’re cool, have fantastic shape, are comfortable and can look formal or informal depending on the occasion and how you accessorise. A pashmina swept over the shoulders brings that ‘it’ factor for evening. For the best spring wedding look, find lighter, more luxurious materials – cotton, linen and layers of silk. Find a good shoulder detail – one-shoulder plaited dresses are back in – and you’re good to go.
Florals and intricate prints are always a good wedding choice – and this season’s varieties have a lot more kick than the usual duvet-cover varieties. Look for punched-up prints with some kind of computer detail; high-tech is very on-trend. Mary Karantzou is your muse.
For weddings on grass or unstable surfaces, wedges and flats are your friends – don’t go with stilettos, they’ll just sink. A good ballet flat is an underestimated wedding asset.
The ultimate in wedding chic, if you can pull it off, is a trouser suit. If Bianca Jagger wore one to get married in, so can you. Think bright, light colours and a flattering cut. We’re loving Pucci’s resort suits, pictured, in their lovely ice-cream range of colours.
Wear with an open blazer and open-toe heels – we’re loving Zara’s new range of fluoro popping heels, to give a lemon or baby blue suit some kick. Wear with elegant hair and earrings, and you’ll look less mother-of-the-bride than just-flown-in-from-Vogue.
Alternatively, if you want a little more femininity, go for a skirt-suit – they’re very in among fashion editors, and have the same masculine edge. Wear with a bow tie and high white collar for some formal fun edge.
