Barney Martin, hair expert and king of cuts reveals his hair trend predictions for the summer
“It’s think natural texture and long grown out layers… summer is a great time to go short and try something different!” said Barney.
“Hair is moving away from the Kardashian and Victoria Secrets bombshell look and moving towards a more unstated look, just like the fashion from the catwalks,” says Barney.
His top predictions include:
1. Geometric cuts are back! “This may be hairdressers ode to the late Vidal Sassoon,” Barney adds.
2. Texture cuts but with clean perimeters and tidy around the edges
3. Great Gatsby inspired short bobs
4. Short choppy fringes cut above the brows or to the other extreme big fringes
5. A contrast of either muted down colours following the economic downturn or bleach blondes with pastel tips following the dip dye trend
Colour
So how do we keep our tresses looking fabulous all summer, without compromising our colour?
David Babaii, whose celebrity client list includes Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, and Sarah Jessica Parker, gives these tips to maintain your lustrous locks at salon condition weeks after leaving the salon!
– Keep your hair in top condition with regular 6-week trims or even just a dusting! It’s all about maintaining your hair.
– Use styling products for your hair type and always use a great treatment product to nourish and protect colour.
– If you experience colour damage a colourist at a salon will tone the hair and colour-correct
– Bleach is extremely damaging to the hair so you need to get moisture back into it. Use an intensive treatment and make regular use of leave-in hair oil and in future, remember that if you’re making a dramatic change, you need to see a professional.
– Use an intensive treatment in place of conditioner for one week. Choose one that is keratin-based for strength, but that also has moisturising benefits.
To keep your colour Rescu. recommends David Babaii Colourmaxx Shampoo (RRP: $22.95 available online from https://www.davidbabaii.com and in store at Priceline, Terry White Chemists) infused with pequi, a fruit from Brazil that has been clinically proven to increase strand strength and fortify chemically compromised hair.
