One of the biggest fashion events on the annual Australian calendar is the David Jones Spring/Summer 2010 launch. Although Miranda Kerr was no where to be seen, a host of our countries top models and designers put together a stunning show for an exclusive guest audience.
Held this week in Sydney at the Elizabeth Street Flagship store, the David Jones S/S 2010 launch saw models Abbey Lee Kershaw, Catherine McNeil, Nicole Trunfio and Alexandra Agostin, strut their stuff in some amazing designer threads.
All of our favourite Australian designers were there, including Sass & Bide, Akira, Alex Perry, Zimmermann, Camilla and Marc and many more.
The trends that sizzled on the runway
The show featured a heavy amount of draping, ruching and layering, which we can expect to be popular over the warmer months. Tulip skirts features prominently along with loose elegant necklines. The colour palette across the board focused largely on earth tones, like olive green and nude, mixed with vibrant sun drenched splashes of reds and burnt orange. Our prediction for the most popular collections is that of Zimmermann, who featured their delicate dresses in a range of covetable light floral prints and Sass & Bide who continue to reinvent themselves- this time with show stopping embellished blazers and dresses in a black, white and gold palette.
Of course the swimwear was hotter than hot, and had us wishing summer was just around the corner. Add a touch of fierce animal print or a cute polka dot, and the latest David Jones collections are set to be huge.
Shu uemura make up gurus pay tribute to the Australian lifestyle
Although the fashions were nothing short of fabulous, the make up was definitely a highlight, with Japanese make up guru Uchiide-San, the director of Shu uemura, leading the way with his team of experts who flew in from Japan. The looks were created exclusively for the show and were inspired by our famous Australian summers, featuring the models in perfectly sun kissed perfection. Hair was simple yet chic, worked into sleek ponytails, braids or top knots, under the direction of Darren Borthwick.
As predicted the show was an exquisite display of our famous Aussie models and designers, and now we simply can’t wait for the weather to warm up!
