The Annual Sundance Film Festival kicked off on the 20th of January in Park City, Utah. Sundance was once a low-profile event but has become a Hollywood extravaganza and an important mark on celebrities’ calendars so we’ll be keeping a close eye on the parties, premieres and people.
The premier showcase for independent film is not even half way through but there’s already enough gossip to keep bloggers and celebrity columnists fingers tapping away at their keyboards frantically so we’ve brought you a wrap up of the first few days.
Celebrity Spotting at Bing Bar
Each year Microsoft search engine Bing opens the Bing Bar on Main Street for the festival and, with exclusive film premiere after-parties, happy hours, press junkets and The Bing Decision Maker Series; it is proving to be a celebrity hot spot.
During the day, Susan Sarandon hit the bar for The Bing Decision Makers Series where she reflected on the decisions that have shaped her life. Later, Susan kicked off Bing’s SPiN Happy Hour with none other than Lil’ Jon.
Later, Bing Bar played host to a party to promote Liv Tyler’s new thriller The Ledge where the stunning star spoke about her famous fathers debut on American Idol. Tyler told JustJared she, “felt like a really proud daughter, smiling and laughing the whole time” while she watched her Steven Tyler judge the latest series.
Rumours are circling about expected attendees for Bing events left, right and centre so we’ll keep our eye on the venue right through the festival. Oprah, Zooey Deschanel, Paul Rudd, Penn Badgely and many more are all said to be making appearances at the bar.
James Franco Celebrates
It seems James Franco has been playing a little too much Singstar lately. The star of 127 Hours was spotted singing into the mic at the DJ booth, donning a long blond wig while hosting a “Reagle Beagle” themed party presented by Sotheby’s.
We don’t blame the busy star for letting off some steam, along with 127 Hours; he is attending Yale University, has written a book, signed on to co-host the Oscars and is promoting his documentary Three’s Company: The Drama at Sundance. Impressive!
Loved-up couple Eliza Dushku and Rick Fox were also in attendance at the Friday night party.
Is Felicity Jones the next Carey Mulligan?
Just two short years ago, the Sundance Film Festival launched British beauty Carey Mulligan into stardom with An Education and The Greatest. This year, the long-distance romance Like Crazy has been snapped up by Paramount for $4 million and newcomer Felicity Jones natural, raw performance has experts saying she’s set for stardom.
That’s all from us today but stay tuned to RESCU’s celebrity spotlight section for more news from Sundance over the coming weeks.
