In yet another drug scandal surrounding a sportsperson, Australian swimmer Geoff Huegill has been dropped from his roles as brand ambassador for Swisse and AUSTSWIM, following drug-use allegations. The retired swimmer and his wide Sarah Hill were reportedly caught carrying cocaine at Randwick Racecourse in Sydney on Saturday.
Geoff Huegill’s contract with Swisse vitamins is due to expire at the end of this month, and a representative from the brand told the Sydney Morning Herald that they will not be renewing it following the incident on Saturday.
‘We have not used Geoff in any above-the-line advertising over the past past 12 months and we notified Swimming Australia several weeks ago that we would not be renewing our partnership when the contract expired at the end of May,’ said the representative.
Similarly, AUSTSWIM, Australia’s national organisation for teaching water safety and swimming, has spoken out against Huegill’s actions.
‘The alleged incident is out of character but AUSTSWIM has zero tolerance and we’ve suspended the relationship to let natural justice take its course,’ said AUSTSWIM chief executive, Gordon Mallet.
The scandal has yet to be resolved and there is no official confirmation as yet that Geoff Huegill was definitely carrying the drug, however it seems that the incident will carry weighty consequences for the retired swimmer’s career.
