Despite the extreme coastal winds, thousands of participants lined up for the world’s biggest race, Sydney’s City2Surf 2012.

Whether you’re competing, fundraising, or just getting some fresh air, Sydney’s annual City2Surf – the 14km marathon from the heart of the city to Bondi Beach – has become an essential component of the city’s culture and has become the world’s largest running race.
Rescu. salutes all those who took part in the event, not only due to the nature of the course, but with Sydney’s torrential rain and gail-force winds continuing from Friday make it arguably the worst racing conditions in City2Surf history.
According to SMH, in 42 years, only twice had it rained during the world’s biggest run, but the capacity 85,000 entrants charged on through!
A number of celebrities took part in the race in the name of charity, including celebrity chef Neil Perry, boxer Lauryn Eagle and Biggest Loser winner Margie Cummins.
Liam Adams has become the first back-to-back winner of the City2Surf since Dickson Marwa in 2006-07, smashing his rivals to take the 14-kilometre race in 00.41.31 minutes.
Predicted to be the slowest race of the event in a number of years, luck was on the side of the 25 year old runner as well as women’s winner Lara Tamsett, who crossed in 00.46.55.
