The 50 Days No Sugar Challenge started 1st July. It’s a free public event created by Rescu. fitness expert, Natalie Carter, which has gained popularity with thousands registering around the globe. As a qualified PT and health advocate, her aim is to curb people’s sugar addictions (too many processed sugars; soft drinks, lollies, pastries, cocktails, juice/cordial, condiments and ice cream), help assist weight loss, build energy levels and re-educate individuals with better eating habits for overall long term optimal health.

Rescu: Why did you develop the 50 Days No Sugar Challenge?
Natalie Carter: Initially it grew from my own personal sugar addiction, I wasn’t a sugar junkie but I still ate too much. I spoke to more and more people and it was then I realized everyone felt the same way. We all needed to kick the sweet stuff. Sugar has been a very contentious subject over the last few years with nutritionists regularly reporting we eat too much of it and need to rid our cupboards of it. So the challenge series was born. First a challenge during November, “NoSugarVember” and another one for 2012, 50 Days No Sugar.
Rescu: Is it hard to follow?
Natalie Carter: It’s a challenge in itself to be committed to focusing some energy on resisting the sweet stuff. Even if it’s for a few days or months that you avoid you will be far better off! It’s even better when you have support, guidance and a little community to lean on. You can go it alone but it’s so much more fun teaming up together and sharing experience’s (including cravings!) together.
You may experience a few cravings at first but then your energy perks up and most participants are on cloud nine.
You also don’t remove any food groups, which is a bonus just the refined sugars that are commonly lurking in our shopping aisles.
Last year, this was said about our previous No Sugar challenge “NoSugarVember:
“Quite simply, NoSugarVember is one of the most satisfying, if not the most life changing things I’ve ever participated in.”
“Thanks Nat for the inspiration. Kilos gone & cms down. Planning on continuing however it has taken 30 days to get over my craving for a passion fruit cream filled melting moment. Feeling great.”
Rescu: What are people saying so far?
“I am feeling so in control – it’s awesome!”
“So, here we are at 3:30pm on the first WORK day since No Sugar, usually I glide over on my wheelie chair attempting to steal chocolate from my colleagues desks or scrounge up coins for the vending machine for a Mars Bar or hope someone has bought cup cakes! BUT NOT TODAY! I am about to tuck into a carrot and some hummus. With plenty of water and maybe a cup of tea in a little bit!”
“Feeling FANTABULOUS…just saying”
“Cravings and overwhelming fatigue has hit, it’s really showing me how much I was propping myself up on sugar!! I’m quite excited to see how I feel on natural energy.”
