Collette Dinnigan for The Australian Ballet at Target

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Pinterest

Collette Dinnigan. The Australian Ballet. Target. What do these three names have in common you ask? A collaboration of Grand Jete proportions of course!

 By Lucy P

The Australian Ballet was my guilty pleasure from 6-12 years of age. Sure, it isn’t a typical child’s form of entertainment, but it most definitely was the magic to my childhood. I would sit, propped up by my booster seat as Lucinda Dunn pirouetted across the Opera House stage, and wait with shaking hands for David McAllister’s autograph. Going to the Australian Ballet made me aspire to make something of my life, and made me try even harder in Ballet class to be a Lucy Dunn of the world.

Sadly, my ballet career was cut short when a passion for boys, hot chips and Saturday sleep ins took over me in Year four (something I regret), but ballet still lived on in my fashion and entertainment choices. Today, at 23, you will often find me mixing up my work wear with a mesh ballet skirt or messy bun: the Ballerina in me never fades. So, when I heard that my favourite designer, Collette Dinnigan was celebrating The Australian Ballet’s 50th anniversary with a collaboration for Target, my heart skipped and I pirouetted to my laptop to find out more.

The ballet-inspired party wear range is every little girls dream. From boleros, a ballet bag, and of course, Tutus, it will put any little girl in a tizzy. Dinnigan’s inspiration for the collection was “Through the innocent eyes of a young girl’s fantasy of playing dress ups from her grandma’s vintage trunk. It is the romance of a little girl’s dream to be a ballerina, to dance, to dress up in a tutu and role play”

What makes this range even more fantastic is that 10% of sales from the collection will be donated to support The Australian Ballet’s education programs allowing more children across Australia the chance to express themselves through dance.

The collection will be ranged in sizes 3 to 8, and the prices will start at $19 up till $59. The collection is available in 100 Target stores nationwide and Online from November 21. Chassé to your local Target store quick: this range will Grand jeté out the door.
