The Benefits of Hypnotherapy

Why do people choose to use Hypnotherapy for weight loss, quitting smoking, phobias, pain, anxiety and a range of other issues?

The American Medical and Dental Association approved hypnotherapy back in 1958 that is how long it has been an accepted therapy. Hypnosis is recognised by the scientific community as an effective tool, although how it works is still something of a mystery. Doctors and Psychologists refer patients to Hypnotherapists every day to help them overcome issues experienced from the past and are those they are experiencing now.

What we do know is that our subconscious mind guides our thoughts and behaviours. Hypnotherapy is based on assisting people to modify their thoughts and behaviours by freeing them from the grip of unconscious triggers and impulses thereby empowering the individual to achieve their required results.

Many people are now turning to Hypnotherapy as a natural alternative to using drugs. There has been a large jump in people using hypnotherapy to quit smoking instead of filling their bodies with more chemical patches and pills that do not have a great result.

Hypnotherapy or hypnosis may help identify unconscious triggers; things that make your body crave a cigarette or food without understanding the underlying reason. The therapist works with the client allowing them to understand the reasons behind these desires and embeds suggestions into the subconscious mind to modify these thoughts resulting in different choices being made.

Hypnotherapy can also assist clients to

  • Reduce the anxiety of a past event,
  • Remove unrealistic fears or phobias such as needles, attending the dentist, flying
  • Lessen the severity of a past trauma
  • Diminish the need to smoke or eat excessively
  • Aid you to disconnect from a hurtful relationship enabling you to move forward

The late hypnosis innovator Milton Erickson, MD, is the father of modern hypnotherapy. During the 1940’s to 1970’s he developed astonishing hypnosis techniques. Most hypnotherapists have studied these techniques and they remain widely used today. Hypnosis bypasses the analytical part of the mind allowing more direct access to the subconscious mind whereby you respond positively to suggestion. The individual remains in complete control and focused on the voice of the hypnotherapists beneficial suggestions.

When it comes to losing weight and keeping it off or quitting smoking for good, a winning combination is Hypnosis and Psychotherapy, which is a form of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). This combination helps replace counterproductive thoughts and behaviours into more positive actions that enable the client to regain their control. Clients who use this combination of therapy loose twice as much weight and cease smoking far easier.

Hypnotherapy is excellent for anyone suffering anxiety. Clients learn to relax and switch off their fast running minds. When we can stop our minds processing can relax physically, emotionally and mentally. This allows people to regain their focus and direction instead of remaining impeded by overwhelming thoughts and feelings.

Positive thoughts breed positive actions which bring positive success. That’s exactly how hypnotherapy works, helping install new feelings of well-being. Since hypnosis is accessing the creative unconscious part of the mind, there is far less resistance in accepting positive suggestions. Therefore the treatment can be much more effective and produce much quicker results.

It’s important to remember that everyone has his or her own unique experience of hypnosis. What one person feels may be entirely different from the next. Many people shy away from the use of hypnosis because they don’t understand how or why it works, or fear they cannot be Hypnotised.

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring, beneficial, positive state. It is just deep relaxation. We presume that all medical practitioners would agree on the health benefits of deep relaxation. As a therapy it should be embraced for producing personal growth and personal empowerment.
