We have three addictive books to tempt you – from a revolutionary dieting guide, The Chocolate Diet, to our new favourite fiction titles.
1. The Chocolate Diet by Dr John Ashton and Dr Lily Stojanovska
Written by two Australian scientists, this book helps you to stop feeling guilty about eating chocolate. It reveals which type of chocolate is best to eat, and exposes dieting myths.
A large part of the book is dedicated to learning how to lose weight. With chapters entitled ‘Helping Reduce Our Appetite’ and ‘Understanding Why We Lose Weight,’ plus a 14-day meal planner, it is the perfect healthy eating guide.
Book critic’s review:
The Body + Soul website had a nutritionist read this book and she said, “The writers come from a strong nutritional background, evident in the recommended eating plan, which is balanced, straightforward and factual.”

2. Finding Mr Flood by Ciara Geraghty
This entertaining book was written by an Irish writer whose writing style has been compared to author Marian Keyes.
The plot:
When Dara Flood’s older sister needs a kidney transplant, she tries to find their long-lost father, who deserted the family before Dara was born. Dara hires an accident-prone but adorable private investigator, Stanley Flinter, to help find her father. Their investigation takes them on a wild goose chase, which includes a romantic stop-over in Paris.
Dara works in a dog pound with two very eccentric colleagues. If you combine that with Stanley’s bizarre female housemate and his sideline career spying on cheating husbands, you have a fun, action-packed story.
Finding Mr Flood is written through the eyes of several characters – Dara, Stanley and, occasionally, the missing Mr Flood.
Book critic’s review:
“With a cast of characters who are both likeable (if flawed) and believable, this is a lovely mix of romance, heartbreak, angst and ultimately happy endings.”

3. Beyond Fear by Jaye Ford
Described by publishers as ‘Nicci French meets Karin Slaughter,’ Beyond Fear is an edge-of-your seat thriller from talented Australian author Jaye Ford. It’ll keep you reading until late at night.
The plot:
Jodie Cramer was 17 when she and her friend, Angie, were attacked by three men. Angie was murdered and Jodie was stabbed and left for dead.
Now 35, Jodie is a teacher and divorced mother of two. When she goes on a holiday with three friends to a secluded cabin, she finds evidence of trespassers, but her friends refuse to believe her – until two men take them hostage.
Jodi has a love interest, a burnt-out cop, but she is a strong heroine who has years of self defence training (think actress Sigourney Weaver in the movie Alien).
Book critic’s review:
“A must-read for thriller fans, Beyond Fear has plenty of suspense, atmosphere and an excellent mix of action and psychological tension.” – The Nile website
