The Staple Centre in Los Angeles played host to the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards on February 13th and we were glued to our computers watching music’s night of nights unfold. In this Grammy’s edition of our Celebrity Spotlight we’re bringing you a wrap-up of all the winners both musically and style-wise.
Gaga’s Eggcellent Arrival and the Creative Fashion Trend
In true Fame Monster style, Lady Gaga arrived to the Grammys inside a semi-see-through egg which was carried along the red carpet by four men and one woman dressed in Gold. In a muffled interview from inside the egg, Gaga referred to it as a “womb” which was clearly a reference to her most recent single Born this Way which she performed on the night.
After the performance she donned a skin-tight, stomach baring, latex ensemble with enormous shoulder pads.
The attention-seeking star was nominated for six awards on the night and took home the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Bad Romance, Best Pop Vocal Album for The Fame Monster and Best Video for Bad Romance.
Lady Gaga’s entrance out-did everyone in the crazy stakes with only NIcki Minaj coming any where close in her seriously fierce Givenchy animal print look but creativity was on all the stars fashion radar. So many of our favourite stars donned floor-length gowns with a sharp edge making them pretty without being boring.
Katy Perry’s Flying Start
Katy Perry looked angelic in a custom-made Armani gown with a bedazzled bust and a pearl coloured skirt which was draped like a sari. She also wore a pair of white wings. Katy’s husband Russell Brand and her 90-year-old Grandmother accompanied the star both wearing silver Armani.
Later, Katy performed Not Like the Movies and an abridged version of Teenage Dream while her Indian nuptials appeared on a huge curtain behind her. The very personal performance was simply beautiful and a wonderful way to kick off Valentine’s Day.
Rihanna wow’s the crowd
Rihanna was turning heads in a piece from the Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2011 Haute Couture collection. Her floor-length, fitted gown was completely see through aside from 
well-placed ruffles. Her beauty look packed the wow factor as well with her shoulder length fiery red hair in a soft bob, her eyes shaded in violet and a to-die-for red pout. The Barbadian beauty was nominated for five awards on the night, taking out the Best Dance Recording for her song Only Girl (in the World).
She also performed for the viewers with an incredible performance of Love the Way you Lie with Eminem and later sung What’s My Name? with Young Money’s Drake.
Kim Kardashian’s Fashion Emergency
Kim Kardashian showed off those famous curves in a stunning gold gown by Kaufman Franco. Her hair, which was styled in her signature curls, matched her voluptuous figure. We love the nude Louboutin’s with this dress; they ensured the look wasn’t too over-the-top.
On the red carpet, Kim told E! about her pre Grammys fashion emergency revealing that she almost couldn’t fit that famous butt into her dress! She said, “The designers were amazing and they came in and met me and redid the whole thing.” We’re glad it worked out for her because this look is one of our favourites from Kim!
Big Winners, Big Shockers
Twitter was abuzz with statements beginning “Who is…” during the ceremonies with a lot of lesser-known nominees taking home the big awards.
The little known Lady Antebellum took out both Record of the Year and Song of the Year for ‘Need You Now’ beating super stars such as Rihanna, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys and Cee Le Green. Bieber fans hit the roof when Esparanza Spalding was awarded Best New Artist over Florence and The Machine, Drake, Mumford and Sons and Justin Bieber. This one came as a huge shock to everyone!
Canadian group Arcade Fire were well-deserving winners of the Album of the Year but they are less well known than many of us thought with much blogging and tweeting surrounding the confusion over their win. We love their indie tunes but it was still a shock to hear they were the pick above super stars such as Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. We’re certainly glad there was no office sweepstake for this ceremony – we wouldn’t have won a dime!
