Missoni’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection was a striking presentation of the designer’s signature prints transformed into tribal markings and geometric shapes. Smocks, kaftans and tabards featured snippets of street language to provide added edge and marked a distinct movement forward from previous collections.
This graphic clothing look was contrasted by a delicate yet raw hair look created by Eugene Souleiman, Global Creative Director for Wella Professionals Care and Styling.
“I’ve created a sexy and wild look for the hair to give the impression that it’s been styled by nature,” explained Eugene.
To create the look, Eugene transformed the hair into a dry mane with plenty of movement and volume. Hair was blown out in a wild, organic style – as if the models had been blasted by the wind during an epic journey. The effect was one of beautiful contrast to the geometrical shapes of the clothing prints and headscarves wrapped around the hair.
To get the look, Souleiman started with freshly washed and conditioned hair and applied Crystal Styler from the Wella Professionals High Hair range.
He then applied System Professional Volumagic at the roots, High Hair Ocean Sprizz on the ends and then blow-dried it with a large barrel brush to recreate a weathered look.
Taking the hair in sections without brushing it through, Souleiman randomly applied hair straighteners down each section of the hair to hold in the blowdrying rawness and imperfections.
To finish the look, he took a scarf and wrapped it over and under the head and around the neck, pulling out strands from the back and sides to ensure volume and organic texture of the style was retained and sprayed SP Ultimation Extra Strong Finishing Spray.
