The Latest Diet Trends

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Pinterest

There are so many different diets on the market and trying to find that one that fits you best may be more difficult than you think. It’s all about balance, portions and movement, if you eating too much and not burning, you will put on weight, no matter what the diet looks like. Overall diets are meant to be a kick-start to a healthy lifestyle.

By Zoe Bingley-Pullin www.nutrionaledge.com.au

The Clean and Lean Diet:

Guaranteed to give you the beach-beautiful body you’ve always wanted. Simple and effective, with no calorie counting or complicated rules, it shows you first how to get Clean by following a flexible 14-day meal plan endorsed by nutritionist Alice Sykes, PhD R.Nutr, and then how to get Lean by honing your body with maximum impact exercises. Includes delicious, quick and easy recipes, tips on avoiding the cravings that can lead you off track, advice on avoiding the toxic foods and drinks that prevent you losing weight, plus a maintenance plan for keeping the pounds off. Illustrated throughout with recipe and step-by-step exercise photography, it demonstrates that, like James Duigan’s celebrity clients Rosie Huntingdon-Whitely and Hugh Grant, you too can be Clean & Lean for life.

Nigella Lawson has dropped two dress sizes going from a size 16 to a size 12. The celebrity chef was snapped while promoting her new Italian cookbook, Nigellissima.

The 52-year-old, who is said to be on the Bodyism Clean and Lean plan, doesn’t want to lose too much weight.

“I love food and I love cooking so therefore I never deprive myself. Thinness is fantastic for clothes, but I don’t do fashion,” she said.

“There are times when I want to lose weight. I suppose the difference is I don’t want to be as thin. Greed always outweighs my vanity.”

Despite her desire to give into her greed, it seems Nigella is on a high protein diet, tweeting images of her daily meals which include fried eggs, chocolates truffles and smoked salmon.

The Paleo Diet:

The Paleo Diet or otherwise known as the Hunter Gatherer Diet, claims to be the world’s healthiest diet, it based on the simple understanding that the best human diet is the one to which we are best genetically adapted. It is supported by documented scientific evidence and by real-life improvements, even triumphs, of people winning their personal health battles.

Meats, including seafood and eggs are perhaps the most important components of the Paleo Diet. Ideally, the animals from which the eggs and meat come from are fed a natural (to the animal) organic diet. That is, chickens have access to greens, insects, etc, as well as grain. Cattle eat grass and other pasture greenery. Fish should come from the wild, or at least be fed what wild fish eat. In any case, meats should be free of breading of any kind.

Dukan Diet:

It’s been a best-seller in France for years, but now The Dukan Diet is getting attention on this side of the pond. It’s no wonder: The book claims to have helped 5 million French people lose weight. And singer Jennifer Lopez and model Giselle Bundchen are reported to have lost their post-pregnancy pounds on The Dukan Diet.

The Dukan Diet was created by French physician Pierre Dukan more than 10 years ago as a treatment for obese people.

Essentially, it’s a four-phase, high-protein, low-calorie diet plan. There’s no weighing foods or counting calories. You eat as much as you want, at any time of day – as long as what you’re eating is lean protein, at least initially.

Raw Food Movement:

Raw foodism (or rawism) is the practice of consuming uncooked, unprocessed, and often organic foods as a large percentage of the diet. Depending on the type of lifestyle and results desired, raw food diets may include a selection of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds (including sprouted whole grains such as gabba rice), eggs, fish (such as sashimi), meat (such as capriccio) and non-pasteurised /non-homogenized dairy products (such as raw milk cheese, and raw milk yogurt).

Celebrity proponents include Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson, Jason Mraz, Ben Vereen and Carol Alt. Woody Harrelson has published books on raw food, starred in a raw food film, created a raw food website and also opened O2, a raw food restaurant and bar. Model and actress Carol Alt includes raw animal products in her diet; she has written several books on her version of the raw diet and lifestyle.

Macrobiotic Diet:

A macrobiotic diet (or macrobiotics), from “macro” (large) and “bios” (life), is a dietary regimen which involves eating grains as a staple food supplemented with other foodstuffs such as local vegetables, avoiding the use of highly processed or refined foods and most animal products. Celebrities like Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow are or have been fans of this diet. The 37-year-old actress, who has followed a macrobiotic diet for 11 years and exercises up to three hours a day – has revealed that she has been diagnosed with osteopenia, an illness that can lead to the serious bone disease osteoporosis.

Macrobiotics also addresses the manner of eating by recommending against overeating and requiring that food be chewed thoroughly before swallowing.  Macrobiotics writers present it as a means of combating cancer.

Some general guidelines for the Japanese style macrobiotic diet are the following (it is also said that a macrobiotic diet varies greatly, depending on geographical and life circumstances).

Well chewed whole cereal grains, especially brown rice: 40–60%, Vegetables: 25–30%, Beans and legumes: 5–10%, Miso Soup 5%, Sea vegetables: 5%

Traditionally or naturally processed foods: 5–10%

Fish and seafood, seeds and nuts, seed and nut butters, seasonings, sweeteners, fruits, and beverages may be enjoyed occasionally, 2-3 times per week. Other naturally raised animal products may be included if needed during dietary transition or according to individual needs.
