The Logies 2014 Highlights and Red Carpet Fashion

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Pinterest

The Logies are the biggest night in Australian television, and the Logies 2014 were bigger than ever. From Asher Keddie to Jennifer Hawkins, Kylie Minogue and more, Australia’s biggest names were in attendance for awards, fashion and live performances that brought down the house.

The evening kicked off with a performance from Jason Derulo, who performed a medley of his hits Trumpets, in My Head, and Talk Dirty.

The night’s entertainment combined Aussie talent with big international names with Australians Kylie Minogue and Tina Arena, joining British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, John Neman, and American duo MKTO as the evening’s other performers.

The first win of the night went to Asher Keddie, who took home the Most Popular Actress title in an unsurprising victory. Her character Nina Proudman on Offspring is one of Australia’s favourites, and this year has been a dramatic roller-coaster on the show. Keddie also took home the Most Outstanding Actress award later in the evening.

‘Who would have thought that this rag tag, messed up, chaotic family would have five series in them and perhaps more to go,’ said newlywed Keddie in her acceptance speech. ‘It just makes us all so, so happy.’

Most Popular Actor, on the other hand, went to comedian Chris Lilley, for his performance in Ja’mie Private School Girl, which has been a hit both in Australia and abroad. The star was not present at the awards, but delivered a video acceptance speech.

One of the highlights of the evening was Kylie Minogue’s spectacular performance. Kylie Minogue is a Logies veteran – She won a record four logies 26 years ago, including the coveted Gold Logie for her performance on Neighbours. ‘This is not how I remember the Logies from 1988,’ she said as she made her entrance in a sequined cream gown on the red carpet. ‘This is proper, big and amazing.’

The late Peter Harvey of Channel Nine news and 60 Minutes was this year’s Hall of Fame inductee, and was introduced by Tara Brown as ‘a consummate storyteller.’ Harvey’s award was accepted by his children, and a standing ovation honoured the great journalist.

Tina Arena’s performance was the accompaniment for the In Memoriam section of the night, which honoured many Australian talents, including Charlotte Dawson, who is missed by many who were in attendance at the Logies. Arena performed Only Lonely on piano, in a moving moment.

The night ended with the Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality on TV, which was presented by past winner, Kylie Minogue. Although many had anticipated the award would go to Asher Keddie for the second year in a row, Scott Cam was the surprise winner of the award. The host of popular reality show The Block thanked his loved ones and the shows creators as he accepted the award.

‘My mum’s been a bit crook but she’s a fighter; she’s still going strong,’ said Cam in his acceptance speech. ‘Though the shock of this has just killed her.’

‘To my wife Ann – the cameras are on you darling so smile -–she’s just an absolute corker, I tell you what. She looks after the fort, she looks after the kids, she looks after me; she just does an outstanding job.’
