Australian designer Alex Perry has closed his twitter account following controversy surrounding his role as host of the Real Housewives of Melbourne reunion episode.
The Real Housewives of Melbourne aired their reunion episode last night and fans switched on to see what the ladies had to say to each other after their time apart since filming ended. Rescu. Fashion Expert Alex Perry stepped in to host the evening, bringing a dash of class to what turned into a very vicious evening between the show’s starlets.
However, following the show, the designer was accused of encouraging the bullying, and after fans turned to twitter to air their disapproval, Perry closed his account.
“I just don’t want to be part of that environment anymore,” said Perry, of his decision to end his Twitter account. “There are some great people on there, but I also think it can be a toxic swamp and I don’t want that in my life anymore.”
“I think that bullying is an incredibly serious issue, and I think there are ill-informed people on Twitter, who are — how can I say this nicely — of low intelligence, that are just on there to use it as a toxic forum.’
“I ask simple questions of the women and then was accused of bullying, and it makes me sick.’
The housewives had a lot to say to one another on the show, throwing attacks in each others direction throughout the evening with nobody escaping unscathed. Gina and Lydia particularly came into conflict, with Gina saying ‘Lydia’s basically got a prostitute’s mentality.’
But that wasn’t the worst insult of the night. ‘You’re an insignificant arse hair,’ said Gina to Andrea, while Andrea lashed out at the audience, saying, ‘I’m not a twitter expert, but I’ve become an expert at it. My main concern is, I’m scared for the children who don’t have the confidence I have. I’ve been communicating with the trolls, and a lot of them have turned around when they know the facts.’
While the insults hurled across the room during The Real Housewives of Melbourne reunion episode were bracing, they were nothing compared to some of the more comedic statements of the evening.
Here are some of our favourite lines:
‘I’m halfway through writing my book… it took me a couple of days.’ – Gina.
‘We’re always looking beautiful and glamorous, you know? It’s a standard thing for us.’ – Lydia.
‘I never said that.’ – Gina, while watching video footage of herself calling the other housewives ‘morons’ on the show.
