The Stars at Chanel, a Stella Show in Paris and Mini DVF

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Pinterest

Katy Perry, Alicia Keys and Anna Wintour attended Chanel’s Autumn/Winter 2012-13 ready-to-wear show at Paris Fashion Week, while Sir Paul McCartney and his wife Nancy Shevell were at his daughter Stella McCartney’s show the previous day. Over in Los Angeles, Diane Von Furstenberg launched her line for GapKids and BabyGap.

Designer Karl Lagerfeld sent out models – including Miranda Kerr, Stella Tennant, Lindsey Wixson, Lily Donaldson and Cara Delevingne – in alien-inspired make-up with over-embellished brows and hair in tight pony-tails to show off his designs which included a series of boucle suits.

Other highlights at the catwalk presentation at the Grand Palais – which saw the models emerge from a crystal cave – included lurex and mid-length silk skirts in jewel tones and printed cigarette trousers.

Meanwhile, the brand’s signature tweed jackets received a modern makeover with hoods while slouchy jumpsuits and jacquard parkas were also evident on the runway.

Karl gave a nod to a more youthful clientele with leather ankle boots featuring cut-out panels and Plexiglass heels and a pair of crystal encrusted footless tights.

The designer stepped out of the crystal cave at the end to applause from the appreciate audience.

Meanwhile, P. Diddy arrived half-way through the Hakaan show but was quickly seated in the front row next to French Vogue editor Emmanuelle Alt.

The Beatles legend and his third spouse were joined by the likes of Alicia Keys and Salma Hayek at the show, in which Stella presented her ready-to-wear Fall/Winter 2012/13 collection.

The clothes were young, fun, feminine and light, while collars, flouncy skirts, tailoring and rich country tweeds played a big part.

Speaking about the collection, Stella said, “It’s English countryside meets urban energy, color and shine.

“It was very much the country girl discovering the urban edge. I tried mix the two worlds together but in an unexpected way.”

Although she is pro at showing her collections, Stella recently revealed she still finds fashion “intimidating”.

She said, “I don’t go into shops much now, but I used to find it really daunting. And it is really important to me that we make clothes that bring out the best in women. I want them to come into our shops, throw their handbags on the sofa and get stuck in.”

The Belgium-born designer – who is best known for her iconic wrap dress – saw the Gap store in The Grove in Los Angeles decked out with a miniature petting zoo and a railway for the collection, which she said she enjoyed the “optimism” of.

She said, “I used to say no to doing kids collections because I wanted the little girls to grow up, but this is so fun and happy and I like the optimism of it.”

Celebrities including Constance Zimmer and Alyson Hannigan attended the opening of the collection.

Diane, 65, recently revealed she has a “less is more” approach to make-up as she had gotten older.

She said, “As I get older, I’ve found that less is more when it comes to make up. My signature look has always been about emphasising my cheekbones and I love Nars Multiple Bronzer. It’s a great way of giving your face a mini-lift without the surgery.”
