The wait is over… The Voice Australia is back! Premiering last night to a whopping 2.155 million viewers, the hit singing competition is set to take our TVs by storm.
The new season has got a bigger line up than ever, with new judges Kylie Minogue and will.i.am joining Ricky Martin and Joel Madden. The premiere topped last year’s season opener and then some, with the 2013 season opening to 1.94 million viewers.
But it’s not all about the all-star judges, the season premiere had several talented voices on show, beginning with the blind rounds, in which the judges cannot see the singers until they have voted in their favour. Lionel Cole, Mat Verevis, Kat Jade, Anja Nissen, C Major and Frank Lakoudis made the cut, wowing the judges with their talents.
Tonight will be yet another Australian reality TV showdown, following months of rivalry between My Kitchen Rules and The Block. This time, it will be The Voice vs. Masterchef, with the hugely popular cooking show making its premiere in the same slot as The Voice’s second episode.
Masterchef is in its sixth season, and although ratings have dropped over the years, the show remains a reality TV juggernaut.
Nonetheless, if last night’s premiere is anything to go by, The Voice won’t be shying away from a challenge. Australia is ripe with vocal talent and contestants are upping the ante, bringing out their A game to wow their musical heroes on the judging panel.
