Angela Backshell and Tracy Miller are the creators of Lucette, a young Australian brand that offers a little bit of rock, a little bit of goth, and a whole lot of attitude.
Through the combination of elements that are as opposite as bondage leather and sequin detail, this is a street-wear brand that is bound to leave an impression…
Today’s Lucette show embodied the brand’s punk like attitude. To the thumping beat of DJ Graz, a young, and seemingly aloof selection of models, which included Indigenous model and Vogue Australia cover girl Samantha Harris, created a cutting display with juxtaposing pieces.
Opening the show was the Tribal Rope Kaftan dress, which created an interwoven, chain like sculpture that lifted the flowing underdress to another plain of existence.
Black leather corsets over flowing jersey, architectural sleeves formed of stitched leather, bondage like chains over silk pants and black leather tanks over silk shorts, showed how the hard and the soft could combine to create strong, powerful pieces that remained feminine and youthful.
While many pieces were indicative of the brand’s artistic prowess, the dresses became a standout as they tempered this creativity into a form that appeared ready to wear.
Geometric prints, which are proving popular again this fashion week, were colourful additions to the otherwise predominantly black and sand coloured palette.
You could sense a touch of Sass & Bide in the tanks and the bodysuits and the futuristic feel created through cut-outs seemed predicative of what’s to come.
Lucette may only be 2 years old, but today’s collection implied that there is a lot of creative fun being had with this brand, and going by the young and exuberant crowd, it will no doubt be embraced for some time to come.
