There was some really striking looks on day 1 of RAFW. Redken gave us a ‘flower pot chignon’ at Lisa Ho, a ‘snake-like wave’ at Seventh Wonderland, and a ‘braided halo’ at Women’s Ready To Wear #1. Keep reading for style notes and more photos…
LOOK 1: Flower pot chignon’ at Lisa Ho
Inspiration:
“Strong and sculptural; a polished woman” describes Kenneth Stoddart, Hair Director for Redken. Lisa and I wanted a classic, elegant shape. The head shape needed to be more ‘compact’ than previous collections.”
“The ‘flower pot chignon’ at Lisa Ho showcased an up do with minimalist elegance. The girls demonstrated a certain richness with full head of hair, wrapped up into a flower-pot chignon at the back, just under the crown. Reminiscent of early century Parisiennes with an expensive lifestyle.”
How to get the look:
1. Blow dry the hair with Redken Guts 10. Then pull back into a ponytail just below the crown and secure a false ponytail, or long hair weft, to the top for a full head of hair.
2. Wrap the ponytail smoothly into a conical or flower-pot shaped chignon and
secure with large French pins. Spray with Redken Forceful 23 super strength finishing spray.

LOOK 2: ‘Snake-like wave’ at Seventh Wonderland
Inspiration:
“It’s a 1930s finger wave with a modern twist,” says Redken Hair Director Jon Pulitano.
Section by section, Jon molds the hair in a snake-like wave over the entire head with a high shine wet-look finish. Random sections of hair are positioned flat against the model’s face, almost like the hair is dripping. “The end result is meant to look almost plastic which was achieved by layering hairspray as we dried the hair,” says Jon.
How to create ‘finger waves’
For a simple way to integrate finger waves into your look, try a section at the hairline to frame the face and simply pull the remaining lengths back into a bun. Here’s how;
1. Part your hair to one side and separate the front section 5cm back from the hairline.
2. Starting on one side of the part, apply Redken For Men Stand Tough extreme gel evenly through the roots and lengths.
3. Next using your fingers, begin to push and manipulate the hair into a wave formation and hold each ‘wave’ into place using sectioning clips. Apply pressure to the hair with your fingers or flatten with a comb to help hold the S-shape in place. Clip and secure each wave with Redken Forceful 23.
4. Continue the process down the entire front section
5. Once the waves are created, use a hairdryer on a warm and low setting to set the wave. Allow to cool and remove the pins.

LOOK 3: ‘Braided halo’ at Women’s Ready To Wear #1
Inspiration:
“This look fuses various textures with braiding and backcombing for a young and edgy, rock like elegance. The braiding works like an angelic halo.” says Maria Ardino, Redken Hair Director.
“A more interesting take on the classic chignon, this looks combines braiding at the hairline and a cute and feminine rosette, all effortlessly tied back into a loose chignon. It’s angelic, modern and wearable.”

How to get the look:
1. Double-mousse the hair by layering in Redken Touch Control 05 and roughly blow dry.
2. Create a low side part and braid across the hairline right to the ends. Tightly wrap the hair into a rosette and secure in place with pins. Spray Redken
Forceful 23 to hold in place.
3. At the back, backcomb large sections of hair with a soft bristle brush. Pull the lengths into a pony tail and secure with a hair tie.
4. Twist lengths into a loose knotted chignon and use bobby pins to hold the style in place. Finish with Redken Workforce 09.
