The Metropolitan Costume Institute Gala is like the Oscars of fashion and fashion and trend forecaster Tony Bannister believes on this red carpet, the stakes are even higher. While the main theme is to “look fabulous darling”, we think there were some standout looks. Here is Tony’s Top 10:

1. Beyonce was queen of the Ball in her breathtaking beaded, lace and feathers fishtail Givenchy Couture gown.
2. Carey Mulligan’s molten fish-scale Prada dress was a shining winner.
3. Cate Blanchett was stunning in a black feather gown by Alexander Mc Queen
4. Rhianna looked reptilian in her figure hugging black snakeskin Tom Ford gown.
5. Chloe Sevigny went for short, in a very Paco Rabanne mirror dress by Miu Miu
6. Gwyneth Paltrow showed off her gym-toned figure in Prada’s sliver of palest blue satin. Following her Tom Ford Oscars dress, she’s definitely on a minimalist kick at the moment.
7. Kristen Stewart looked very new wave in Balenciaga’s patchwork of leathers.
8. Rooney Mara kept her recent gothic style in black lace by Givenchy, flashing just a little leg.
9. Just to prove that men can wear lace too (as long as they’re famous and very fit), Marc Jacobs wore a lace shirt ‘dress’ over manly white shorts. An Interesting take on Black Tie
10. Mad Men star January Jones continued her collaboration with Versace, this time in an Art-Deco inspired, acid yellow peplum dress with metallic panels.
