1970s style, high waisted bell-bottoms and platform shoes are making a fashionable comeback this season, and in the world of beauty things aren’t much different. Punchy purples and ethereal mauves that looked great on the disco dance floor a few decades ago are well and truly back and looking bright, brilliant and better than ever.
Rescu. caught up with Creative director of make up at Estee Lauder, Tom Pecheux to find out how to create the perfect, purple make up look.
Originally created for sensational super model and new face of Estee Lauder, Liu Wen, this look is described by Pecheux as “sheer electricity.” Luminous and vibrant, purples are applied to lips and eyes, so features really pop!
How To – Eyes.
Step 1. Cover the eye, using Shade 5 from the Pure Color EyeShadow Palette in Wild Violet ($85) from lash line to brow. To softly highlight, buff out, right under the brow.
Step 2. Next using the single, Pure Color EyeShadow in 02 Untamed Violet ($40), apply colour to the eye lid, starting at the lash line and finishing just before the crease.
Step 3. To really make eyes stand out, line the lower lashline with Double Wear Eye Pencil in 10 Untamed Violet ($40) then Add Shade 1 from the Pure Color EyeShadow Palette over liner to smudge and soften it.
Step 4. Apply Pure Color EyeShadow in 30 Sugar Cube ($40) along inner corner of crease. The light colour will create the illusion that the eye is bigger than It actually is, and allow the pretty purples to stand out more.
Step 5. Finish the look with a wave of your favourite mascara on both the upper and lower lashes.
For a Purple Pout – Lips
Step 6. According to Pecheux, “Lips are the focus (of this look) sparked with fuchsia violet and florescent gloss.” Apply Pure Color Lipstick in 42 Wild Violet ($45) to hydrated and primed lips.
Step 7. For a super, sleek and shiny finish apply Pure Color Lip Gelée in 19 Electric Violet ($40) Voila! Your 70s inspired look is complete, ready for a night of disco dancing a la Saturday Night Fever.
