This is a huge month astrologically as The Planet Of Tedious Hard Work And Facts You Didn’t Want Shoved Up Your Nose – aka Saturn – finally changes signs. For one thing this give a break to Aries and Librans. For another it now supports Cancerians, Virgos, Capricorns and Pisceans. For Scorpios and Taureans, it has to be said, you are in the direct line of Saturn’s fire. More in a minute about why this can be a good thing, despite what you have probably read! And if you’re name isn’t on any of those lists, don’t panic. Sometimes it’s better to go unnoticed by Saturn!
Saturn is the planet who is also known as The Lord of Karma. What we reap, we shall sow. He’s the menacing planet who reminds us to be good unless we want coal in our Christmas stocking. He’s the mean head teacher who raps our knuckles. He’s the planet who grimly reminds us that we don’t have forever.
So as you can imagine, he is not the most fun you can have. He’s reality, hard facts and lessons. He’s also the planet who says “Get real”. It’s thanks to Saturn that we learn our lessons and our lives improve. When he’s tough, he’s very, very tough. And when he’s nice? He’s useful.
Saturn, for example, is the planet who commits. That doesn’t sound very exciting but what is a marriage or a business arrangement or a friendship without a bit of commitment. He’s the planet who helps us to stay strong and to see how hard work can lead to security and stability. Again, that doesn’t sound very exciting and in all truth, Saturn is the least barrel of laughs planet of all.
But Saturn is rock solid and he does keep his promises. He is moving into Scorpio this month which means he’s affecting us all in a very different way to the way he’s been affecting us for the past three years. Here’s how…

Wherever Saturn goes, lessons follow. Saturn is now hanging out in your communications zone. Put that together and of course it means there are lessons about communications coming your way. This relates to what you say and how you say it, and also covers the way you think as well as the way you listen. Let’s begin with that last one.
Learning how to listen is a very important lesson this year. It’s not that you’re necessarily not a good listener, but listening to the information you’re receiving in a constructive and mature way is an excellent goal this year. If you think you’re way too old to have to worry about maturity, perhaps your lesson this year is of a different nature. Perhaps you need to loosen up your ways of communicating. There is no denying that Saturn is a restrictive planet so for some of you, this year’s lesson will be about finding the inner strength to speak up for yourself. Others will need to learn how to handle the new responsibilities they are given—and that will include learning how to be a boss. If you find yourself at loggerheads with various kinds of authority this year—from parents to teachers to corporate execs—you may be getting lessons about how to communicate with ‘superiors’ in a constructive way. This is also a good year to streamline your thought processes and to look at ways to order your ideas. However, also check to see that you are not immovable in your ways of thinking—avoid rigid thinking now. So what good are all these lessons about communications which Saturn is handing out? This is the end of a three-year cycle and this period is about preparing for the next cycle when you will start to move out of your local environment and into a wider sphere. The one thing you should do this year is keep your spirits up. Saturn in your mind zone can sometimes lead to sombre and serious thoughts. Look for the levity in all your situations and be honest with yourself if you know your mind is filled more with fear than facts.

There certainly are some sleeping dogs we need to let lie. Right now, though, if there’s an old emotional issue that you never managed to get sorted out, expect it to come back to the surface to be dealt with. Anger is always better out than in, by try not to blast people sky high if you get into some kind of argument with them – it’s probably not their problem. Mars here can stir up issues from as far back as childhood so it’s most likely unfair to blame someone else for your ‘stuff’. Own it. Your home and your family can also become a battleground if you’re not careful. Be nice.
