The iconic Sydney annual light show ‘Vivid’ is all set for the lighting of the sails Friday 23rd May at 6pm. Now in it’s sixth year running, the two week long event will once again take over the Sydney Harbour precinct’s key landmarks and buildings and include many art, music, food and community events. Here’s our wrap up of what to see and do to have a truly enlightening evening at Vivid Sydney.

Lighting of the Sails: This special event is the official launching of Vivid and the first showcase of the 59 artists that have created a new projected artwork for the sails of the Sydney Opera House. Head in early for a good spot before you make your way around to the other exhibits.
Martin Place-Colour3: New this year from the creators of Corner House pop up bar, Finley Tuned is turning Martin Place into a visual and culinary playground for the duration of Vivid. Constructed from a maze of illuminated industrial water tanks, Colour3 or ‘Colour Cubed’ creates a unique atmosphere for festival goers wanting to relax and refuel while taking in Vivid Sydney’s other fantastic sights and experiences. Go hungry and thirsty to get your fill of Eat Art Truck, Poklol, Agape Organic, Jafe Jaffles, Bite Size Delights, Woofys, Cantina Mobil and Gelato Messina.
Light the Bridge: A truly unforgettable experience, this remarkable exhibit allows everyone another chance to design their own light show on Sydney’s Iconic Harbour Bridge. From an interactive touchscreen located on the boardwalk near Luna Park, choose your own colours and sequences, and watch as your illuminated creation brings life to the beautiful grey arches.
Luna Park: With the Sydney Harbour Bridge’s western side set to be transformed into a colourful kaleidoscope each night, and the harbour filled with illuminated ferries and vessels, visitors to Luna Park are set to get the best views of Vivid Sydney. The deck restaurant offers full panoramic view across the city where you can settle back and enjoy the stunning outlook as you dine harbour-side. Each reservation also comes with a complimentary ride on the Luna Park Sydney Ferris Wheel and on Friday and Saturday nights, enjoy all the rides and attractions with the family. From the thrilling heights of the Hair Raiser Tower to the classic ambience of the Carousel, Luna Park Sydney has something for everyone during Vivid Sydney.
Play Me: A 3D-mapped projection transforms the façade of Customs House into a series of massive ‘musical sculptures’, in a poetic explosion of light, colour and sound. Select one of the ‘musical sculptures’ from a touch screen, get onto a platform in front of Customs House and ‘play’ the sculpture, bringing it to life in glorious torrents of ever-changing colour, light, form and sound.
The MLC centre and CTA building: The MLC Centre and The Commercial Travellers Association building will come alive with their own dramatic light installations for the first time as part of 2014 Vivid Sydney’s expansion to martin Place. The CTA building in Martin Place will conceptually emulate a magnificent living tree to celebrate the human need for green space. The MLC Centre forecourt will come alive with specialized menu’s and Salt Meat Cheese will be selling hampers.
Opera Bar: There’s simply no better place to relax after seeing the stunning sights of Vivid than Opera bar. Get your last glimpses of the Opera House and Bridge to end your evening with a beverage under the scenic glow of Sydney’s creative spirit.
