RESCU: What does modern glamour mean to you?
Wendy El-Khoury: These words are often not used in the same sentence. To be modern from a fashionable point of view often means sleek, sharp, understated. Glamour on the other hand refers to many levels of fabulousness and exuberance. Meshing the two and finding a balance I believe requires a certain level of refinement, whilst still having fun with fashion. The modern glamorous woman works with shapes and colours that accentuate her best features, considers comfort without looking too ‘comfortable’, and has that ‘I can make an entrance’ look about her.
RESCU: Tell us about a time in your life that you’ve felt truly glamorous?
Wendy El-Khoury: When I was a judge at a ball last year my son was two months old and I hadn’t felt glamorous in a very long time. A friend of mine, George Elsissa, who is an up and coming designer, created a gorgeous gown for me that fit really well (again ‘fitted’ was a little foreign for me at that time). It was a dusty pink chiffon high neck top with silk bodice underlay, billowing sleeves, and a silk fitted skirt (all in one) with a thigh high split and train to match. The gown worked a charm and I received many compliments. I felt glamorous again!
RESCU: What’s the most glamorous destination you’ve ever been to?
Wendy El-Khoury: Definitely Dubai. The women dress for presence, the epitome of glamour. Even the women wearing the traditional abayas have lace and Swarovski elements on their gowns. It really is the ‘modern glamorous’ destination of the world.
RESCU: Tell us about a glamorous person who inspires you.
Wendy El-Khoury: A little cliché, but this award has to go to Angelina Jolie. She is the modern glamorous woman. Always dressed appropriately, never looking uncomfortable or awkward in her attire, she is effortless. I appreciate the way she dresses both off and on the red carpet, never showing too much skin, never wearing anything outlandish or over the top.
RESCU: What advice have you been given or would give to inject glamour into the everyday?
Wendy El-Khoury: Accessorize! I always feel a little accessory can add a touch of glamour and personality to an outfit. I also love wearing heels and really don’t feel glamorous without them. Being on the shorter side I do tend to carry a pair of heels with me wherever I go, I try and keep them slightly lower for daytime but I feel a pair of heels can glam up any outfit.
RESCU: Who would you say is the celebrity bride that every bride- to-be wants to embody?
Wendy El-Khoury: Rebecca Judd, hands down. Every bride wants to be her, look like her, feel like her and the list goes on. Her wedding gown is still on repeat across every wedding blog in the world. The gown had just the right amount of detail, fullness in the skirt, the perfectly fitted bodice and of course the J’Aton modern yet romantic signature. She is the hero bride through and through.
