Westfield’s Fashion Insider Campaign, Ralph Lauren’s Smart Polo & More

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Pinterest

Westfield Goes Behind The Fashion Scenes For Latest Campaign

Westfield 2014

Westfield’s gone for behind-the-scenes fashion names for its latest campaign, tapping designer Dion Lee, model Grace Simmons and others to debut its collections.

And in the process they’ve revealed a few fashion secrets.

The most exciting one? Dion Lee told Vogue at the shoot that he’s prepping for NYFW – and even gave them a sneak hint about what will be coming down the runway.

The inspiration for the collection? Lee revealed it’s famous Australian artist Jeffrey Smart.

Smart is renowned as the Australian equivalent of Edward Hopper, all industrial scenes and brightly-lit dystopian landscapes, so perhaps we can expect Lee’s trademark architectural style to have a more painterly, coloured component.

Elsewhere, Cheyenne Tozzi revealed that she’s ‘obsessed’ with the ultimate in status bags, her Chanel charcoal boy bag – and that her band, Van Hoorn, has been working with the producer for The Kills.

And Grace Simmons dropped the titbit that she might be featured as an equestrian at 2014’s Brisbane Royal Show.

All this fashion gossip, plus good clothes – Westfield knows what we like.

H&M Comes To Sydney For Fashion Night Out

HM-AW14-PFW-5

We can’t believe Swedish high street fashion chain H&M hasn’t established itself in Sydney yet.

But fear not – if you’re longing for a dose of its cult style, there will be a pop-up H&M store in Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall for Vogue Fashion’s Night Out, featuring its Studio collection.

And it will feature both men’s and women’s fashion, so there’s no excuse for the men in your life not to update their wardrobes.

The Fashion’s Night Out happens September 4, but spots are apparently limited.

Considering that the last Fashion’s Night Out in New York featured Karlie Kloss serving her own cookies, it’s a hell of an event – but will H&M be the star of the night?

There’s no news on whether its Alexander Wang collection, which will be athletic-focused, will also be part of the pop-up store, but if it is, a small riot can be expected.

Even if it isn’t, the Studio collection, which debuted in Paris earlier this year, will probably satisfy your yearning. Solange Knowles wore one of the line’s glittery tuxedos to this week’s VMAs, if you’re looking for a preview…

Ralph Lauren Debuts ‘Polo Tech’

ralph lauren

Ever wanted to have clothing that talks to you?

Us neither – but it’s the future, particularly in athletic fashion, where brands are looking for materials and styles that can give wearers information about how they’re performing.

The US Open this week will see the debut of Ralph Lauren’s Polo Tech, a shirt that can tell its owner all about their athletic prowess.

Lauren’s work is worn by ball boys and players on tennis tournaments around the world, including Wimbledon. So how does the Polo Tech work?

It’s all about gathering information. The shirt has sensors embedded in its fabric that track biometric data. It can pick up heart rate, respiration, speed, muscle movement, street levels, energy output and other markers, all of which are important for tracking cardiovascular fitness and performance.

But the info isn’t displayed on the shirt itself (thank heavens – what if your tee suddenly displayed ‘SWEATING LEVEL 900’ during a run?)

It’s transmitted to a black box that puts the stats on your smartphone or tablet.

David Lauren, the label’s vice-president, says that they’re trying to ‘look at opportunities that we believe, and that our customers believe, would help them to live happier and healthier lives’.

It’s certainly a plus for professionals who need to track their performance minutely, and it might be a kick to try and increase your heart rate with every wear.

Our main problem: how does one wash them?
