To create the red carpet version of this look, I start with the hair completely dried off and smoothed out if you’re working with naturally curly hair. Then I apply an old-fashioned strong styling gel, starting at the hairline around the face and working it back with a wide tooth comb to just below the crown, sleek and tight at the sides and set it in place with the blow-dryer. Then with a large barrel curling iron, lightly wave the dry hair.
