Why Your Health Journey Should Be About More Than Just Losing Weight

Many of us focus on achieving a dream body in time for Summer but your health and fitness journey should be about so much more than just losing weight. Instead of depriving yourself of certain food groups and spending hours in the gym, your plan should focus on the long term, ensuring that it is enjoyable and leaves you feeling good physically and mentally. Creating healthy habits with regular exercise and wholesome eating is something you should be doing throughout your entire life and not just as a quick fix.

The Robards Method Founder, Dr Tim Robards shares how the way you eat should be a lifestyle choice, not a short-term fad. For sustainable, long-lasting results, you need a simple formula with real life in mind.

Couple that with a holistic view of wellness and you’ll feel great all year round. Here are a few other tips to help you along your health journey.

1. Self-love

You may have heard it all before but self-love and acceptance is one of the most important things you should be practicing daily. Your body and all of its cells are designed to be healthy. Your body listens to how you talk to it. When you look at yourself in the mirror, what words do you use? Do you speak to yourself with kindness? Assess how realistic your expectations are on yourself, and on others. You may find that you are less disappointed and therefore more positive. Positivity breeds positivity.

2. Give back

Do something good for someone else, whether it be as small as a smile to a stranger or donating clothes you don’t need to the less fortunate. Studies show that one of the best cures for depression or feeling low is helping someone in need.

2. Get some Vit D

Every day you should take time to step outdoors, with no phone, take your shoes off, make contact with the earth and appreciate the world we live in. Studies show that being outside can improve memory, fight depression and lower blood pressure. I suggest that you try take at least 20 minutes a day to go for a walk and reflect.

4 .Move!

We have heard it time and time again that we should exercise every day to lose weight, however exercise is also essential for our mental health. Regular exercise can have a profoundly positive impact on ADHD, anxiety, depression, sharper memory, higher self-esteem, more energy and a better night’s sleep. Of course, exercise can get you bikini ready and trim your waistline, but it can also improve your sex life, and even add years to your life. Studies also show that people who exercise regularly tend to do so because they feel more energetic and motivated throughout the day. Also, let’s face it, the only workout you regret is the one you didn’t do.
