This week, our focus was Australian design. We are constantly amazed and inspired by the creativity and quality that arises from our home-grown talent. We took a peek at Willow‘s Coexist Resort 2014 collection, and made our wish-list as Zimmermann Class of 2013 dropped in stores. We are bananas for the Rachel Zoe Jewellery Collection, and were informed about the fascinating habits of mobile shoppers.

Willow Coexist Resort 2014
Willow previewed her exquisite resort collection this week, and we were so excited to take a peek! Coexist inter-twines the human and natural worlds, creating garments created out of ultra modern, functional materials like neoprene, and taking natural prints and textures and applying both traditional craftsmanship techniques and digital manipulation. The use of textile weave, with leather strips interwoven with cotton thread, chainmail, tulle and silk. Traditional craftsmanship is combined with modern techniques; laser cut leather is woven with cotton to create patterns that evoke python scales, using a palette of soft mustard, peach and monochrome. One very cool inclusion is the use of delicate silver chain mail, which arose conceptually from the designer’s desire to create a 3D version of the famous tulle detailing which has featured in collections over the years. Adorning sleeves and decorating leather, the chain adds a street wear edge to the organic sensibility of the pieces. Another gorgeous element are the long silk tops, split at the front and back, paired with dreamy palazzo pants- the ideal resort look. We can picture the tops draped over bikinis, poolside, or over a mini dress for evening glamour. Totally gorgeous and eminently wearable, Coexist lives up to the name, with an inspired cohesion between wearability, and conceptual artistry.

Zimmerman Class of 2013: Instore Now!
We have been lusting after Zimmermann’s Spring Summer 2013/2014 Ready-to-Wear collection for months now, and, as of this week, the collection has dropped in stores! As we mentioned when swooning over the look book several weeks ago, the concept draws on imagery of the innocent youth’s fall from grace, combining prim and proper bows and flounce with neoprene bonded lace realised in backless, halter-neck dresses and cigarette pants.
The collection is full of collaborations with esteemed artisans. The label worked collaboratively with jewellery brand ManiaMania to create chunky fob chains, crest-embossed pendants and signet rings, as well as with Brisbane artist Courtney Brims, who crafted the pencil-drawn emblem, chandelier and ribbon prints that feature in the range. The collection is filled with amazing separates that channel the theme of prim schoolgirl meets seductive vixen to perfection, with sharp blazers, sexy lace skirts and maxis, and cool woven brocade and metallic leather detailing.

Mobile Shopping Statistics From eBay
Such is the nature of mobile technology that no sooner has a spectacular new innovation is launched than it seems as though life would be unbearable without it. The fifth anniversary of the Ebay app’s launch in the Apple iTunes store has got us thinking about the way that Australians use retail technology- we always seem to be listed in top five lists of e-tail consumers- and eBay obliged with some fascinating stats about how we shop today;
1) Aussies spend more as a percentage of sales on their mobile than any other eBay market; the eBay New Era of Mobile Report reveals that a majority of young Aussies surveyed (62 per cent) admit to having shopaholic tendencies – i.e. someone who can’t think of anything else until they have made a purchase or someone who spends all of their time shopping. Australians, it seems, have truly embraced being able to shop anywhere, anytime.
2) Young women prove the biggest mobile shoppers – 75 per cent of women surveyed admitting to having shopaholic tendencies, compared to 49 per cent of men. However, while women may not be able to resist, it is young men who are most likely to get the inspiration to shop in peculiar places – 26 per cent were inspired to shop on the toilet versus 18 per cent of women.
The ease and flexibility of mobile shopping have made it so much easier to give in to that impulsive retail rush, these figures prove just how mobile shopping has changed when (and where) we shop;
Inspiration to mobile shop strikes in the most unusual places:
- One in three (32 per cent) Aussies report that they were inspired to shop while watching a movie
- One in five were inspired on the toilet
- During a meeting (17 per cent)
- At a birthday party (14 per cent)
- In the shower (13 per cent)
