Too many young women fall victim to eating disorders, but now you can help raise awareness for this illness. Rescu. finds out how you can help The Butterfly Foundation and The Body Shop in their latest campaign.
The Issue
The increase in eating disorders amongst Australian adolescent females has sky rocketed in recent years. The influence of peers, media and societal factors in combination affect young women and their lifestyles. As recent research proves, women who take part in extreme levels of dieting are highly likely to develop an eating disorder within just 6 months with the level of women concerned with this increasing daily.
Here at Rescu. we believe in promoting positive body image, and a well rounded lifestyle, which includes balancing diet and exercise in a healthy way. When we heard about a new campaign by The Butterfly Foundation and The Body Shop, we simply had to share with you.
Your Body and Worth Cannot Be Measured is a campaign that aims to help those who suffer from Disordered eating find safety in creating a balanced lifestyle of healthy eating and exercise. Running from the 3rd-30th May 2010, the campaign will seek to raise awareness to the issue of Disordered eating, which includes extreme and binge eating.
How Can You Help?
The campaign strategy is simple yet effective; petitions will be available to sign at all The Body Shop stores across Australia, in the aim to achieve over 30,000 signatures.
With petition in hand, The Butterfly Foundation and The Body Shop will take their support to the Hon. Nicole Roxon MP, Australia’s Federal Minister for Health and Ageing. The campaign aims to bring awareness to the fact that Disordered eating should be a priority for the Federal Government, particularly as we have seen such obvious increases in the amount of teens and adults succumbing to the illness.
If you are worried about the risk of eating disorders amongst Australians, jump on board and sign a petition at The Body Shop. If you are extra keen to become involved, you can also submit your scales, diet books and measuring tapes to The Body Shop in May in return for a deluxe hand massage and/or a sample pot of your favourite product! It’s time for us all to bring awareness to an issue that has plagued our young women for too long.
