Thomson, who started as a designer and went to style the stars has an impressive A-list for her celebrity clients. Beyoncé, Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Rowland and Oprah are but a few of the major beauties strutting their stuff in Yummie Tummie.

Rescu. interviewed Heather about her success and the best way to dress and feel sexy.

RESCU:How did you go from stylist to designer?
Heather Thomson: I started as a designer and working with celebrities is how I ended up styling. The job descriptions went hand in hand and I found a knack and passion for it.
RESCU: What made you pick shapewear as a place to start?
Heather Thomson: I didn’t pick it – it sort of picked me. After the birth of our first child, the rose-coloured glasses were off while I struggled to get my body back post-baby. I first went to the shapewear dept as a ‘consumer’ looking to boost my confidence.
When I arrived, I thought, ‘it is as if shapewear has frozen in time’.
I was aghast at what my options were. I was reduced to wearing my grandmothers girdle. The products I saw (and yes, tried!) failed me both ascetic ally and functionally. After first having to kick my husband out of the room to dress these girdles would roll, ride and bite and frankly hurt and I was left feeling downright self conscious and ugly. And my designer instincts took over . . .
RESCU: What do you think is the most important tip for making clothes look great?
Heather Thomson: You have to be honest with yourself and know yourself. Spend time understanding your best features and how to work with them and understand what you deem to be your flaws and learn how to work with them.
If you are comfortable and believe in yourself and what you’re wearing, then it will show and you will always look great. Clothes should enhance you not make you unsure, or uncomfortable.
RESCU: Is there any one item you won’t leave the house without?
Heather Thomson: I wear a Yummie Tummie everyday. It is, my third essential. My bra, my panties, my Yummie Tummie, it’s how I get dressed everyday. We have a fun challenge we ask people to do… We tell them to wear a Yummie Tummie for seven days straight and then don’t wear one and see how you feel. The common conclusion is that once you go Yummie, you can’t go back! It just changes the way you get dressed in the morning. It not only makes you look great, but it makes you feel great!
RESCU: Who are some of your celebrity clients now?
Heather Thomson: Many celebrities wear Yummie . . . Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Carrie Underwood, Jessica Simpson, Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Rowland, Martha Stewart, Oprah, Tyra Banks, and Lauren Conrad to name drop a few!
RESCU: Shapewear used to be considered unsexy. What’s different about your designs?
Heather Thomson: The Yummie Tummie brand is about living! Other shapewear brand to be are about suffering!
I designed a range of feel good, look good products to offer beautiful and versatile solutions to everyday dressing. Yummie Tummie was created on the idea that fashion and function could meet and be fabulous. We were the first brand to design sexy, feel good, shaping solutions that looked good. I called it shapewear you want to wear! And with our launch, we started a movement that functional shaping products, could be encouraging and sexy, and meant to be seen all at the same time!

Rescu. loves:
We roadtested the nude tank and found it to be perfect under summer dresses, with jeans and under sheer kaftans. Our post pregnancy tummy and muffin top were smoothed down without feeling like we were in a stray jacket. Loved the long lines and seamless stitching. Hubby even commented we had made a ‘comebak’.
