The Zimmermann show was not only a highlight of RAFW Day 2, but the sister duo proved that pastels will be big this coming Summer, and attention to detail is key!
Zimmermann has been a fashion favourite amongst the editors for many seasons now, but RAFW 2010 saw the label reach new heights with a collection that was youthful, fresh and ultra-femme. The show was packed at the beginning of RAFW day 2, with many guests standing to catch a glimpse of the new collection. As the music began, and the models entered the runway, it was clear that Zimmermann had pulled out an entirely new direction for their covetable label.
Overall, the collection focused on key detail; panelling, cut outs and luscious prints. The well known sister team Nicky and Simone Zimmermann, began with an all monochromatic palette that was worked into the first few outfits. The opening piece was the Vanishing Peony Drape Short Dress, which revealed the signature colours of grey, white and black that were to be mixed into luscious prints through tops, pants and dresses. Models wore metal discs around their necks, chunky silver rings and black lipstick, in a cool nouveau gothic feel. Necklines were high, as seen on tailored collared shirts and elongated tank tops featured intricate panelling.
The girls proved that the high waisted bikini pant will be a popular trend for the oncoming Summer, as they worked the style with the collections signature black and white print. For an added touch, the pant featured a finer geometric print on the behind.
Colour didn’t appear in the collection until sometime, when a soft burst of cream floral came out in a floating skirt. Geometric and floral prints were definitely the favourite for the collection, as the show floated through distinct stages of colour. Crowd favourites included the multi panel detail that featured on tube dresses and high waisted bikini pants, transitioning beautifully from light to dark.
The fine detail that was put into each piece was outstanding. A long black and white geometric print dress was worn underneath a delicately cut out nude slip, that softened the darker dominating palette. As the pieces moved from nude and peach floral, a pastel violet began to appear in loose fitted maxi dresses and multi panelled high waisted bikini pants.
Aside from the retro feel of the bikini pant, stunning one piece swimsuits paraded the runway featuring cut out detail and waisted ties. Once again, necklines were pushed high as seen on a must have peach collared shirt, and as the show drew to an end, a splash of vibrant aqua hit the runway in printed leggings and swimwear.
This latest collection from Zimmermann seemed to focus on a series of three mini collections, which the designers named ‘Vanishing’, ‘Fleeting’ and ‘Vertigo’. With a clear distinction between colour palettes, from monochromatic, to peach, violet and aqua, the collection focused on the same styles with specific detail through prints and panelling. We predict that pastels will be big this coming Summer as Zimmermann worked these sweet shades into their diverse range of styles and silhouettes.
