We know staying healthy at home is a privilege and we’re more than happy to do so to protect our community, but that doesn’t mean we’re not missing our hairdresser.
Thankfully, DIY is more doable than ever before thanks to genius products that help protect our locks (even when we are in desperate need of a trim) and coverup the roots that are starting to make their unwelcome appearance.
Below, we’re sharing a simple DIY hairstyle using nourishing products and a root touch up tutorial so you can keep your Zoom video conference game strong in isolation. Just do us a favor and do not try to cut your own bangs. We promise you, it rarely ends well.
Half-Up Half-Down Hairstyle
Step 1: After applying a heat protectant use Cloud Nine’s Wide Iron Straightener and Tail Comb to straighten all sections of hair. When straightening the ends of the hair gently but swiftly take the iron into a half C-shape up to create a soft flick.
Step 2: Section hair using either your fingers or Cloud Nine’s Tail Comb from the ears to the crown of your head.
Step 3: Using 1-2 small drops of Olaplex’s No.7 Bonding Oil or any hair oil you have, sleek back this section of hair so you are left with no fly-aways and hair is left shiny. Using this oil instead of a hairspray keeps hair in place without irritating your scalp with the residue hairspray leaves behind.
Step 4: Pull this section of hair into a tight ponytail using a clear elastic.
Step 5: Taking a 1cm wide section of hair from the ponytail, twist around the base of ponytail to hide the elastic. Using a bobby pin to set in place at the back.
Step 6: To make the hairline framing the face look full, use Color Wow’s Root Cover Up to hide any patches that may appear bare or bald. Swipe product onto the provided brush, hold hair taut and dab where needed.
Root Touch Up How-To
Step 1: Applying Color Wow Root Cover Up to dry hair only, load up small end of brush with powder.
Step 2: Using your free hand, pull hair flat and taut against head and press brush down firmly into roots. Starting from scalp and working out, do not use a sweeping motion rather just a firm dabbing movement.
Step 3: Where needed apply more powder. To extend highlights, use the side edge of the small brush and slowly with a firm grip take from the base of root to where needed.
Step 4: …and you’re good to go. Wash out using Color Wow’s Color Security Shampoo or leave until your next wash day.
