Valentine’s day has a perception of love being shared with only your partner or a happy couple. We often forget to express and connect with ourselves by engaging and practicing self-love on a daily-basis.
Oil In Kind founders and aromatherapy experts Stephanie Rep and Phoebe Morley, believe essential oils can be a formidable force in the bedroom, helping to release inhibitions and create a deeper connection with the sexual self like no other.
Rep and Morley, share the latest insights and tips on the importance of self-love and how we can achieve this through aromatherapy.
If you are one who hasn’t practiced self-love in the past, doesn’t know where to start, or simply needs a reboot, “the easiest way is by carving out some time each day to be kind to yourself. This can be done through words, actions and thoughts and scents to please the senses”.- says Stephanie Rep and Phoebe Morley.
One of the many positive aspects of essential oils is that it can ground the body, calm the mind and uplift the soul, which is the perfect notion when it comes to practicing self-love.
We asked experts Stephanie and Phoebe to share a self-love essential oil blend they recommended the massaging technique, to allow one to completely immerse into the ritual, and to practice self-love massage daily by using the below body oil recipe on the body, legs and arms:
1 tablespoon Jojoba Oil
3 drops Neroli 2.5% in Jojoba
2 drops Mandarin
1 drop Australian Sandalwood
Combine the essential oils with the Jojoba oil in a small ceramic bowl and swirl before gently massaging to the skin.

How To Get Started
Here are some tips for combining essential oils with the massage technique to enhance self-love and ignite your spiritual connection. To make the most of the experience:
- When it comes to using essential oils, select those which you are personally drawn to and find pleasing. Select from essential oils which are great for relaxation and connection such as Rose, Ylang Ylang, Jasmine, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Patchouli, Frankincense, Lavender and Geranium.
- Apply to skin directly after your morning shower while skin is still a little dewy to help with absorption and to ensure skin stays soft and fragrant throughout the day.
- Follow the below guidelines when using essential oils on the skin: ○ Always dilute your essential oils in a carrier oil (3 drop of essential oil to 1 tablespoon or carrier oil)
- Be sure to check if the essential oils are photosensitive (such as citrus oils) and if they are, avoid exposure to direct sunlight
- If you have sensitive skin, do a test patch first
“Self- love is a mindfulness practice with a specific intention or focus. So if you already engage in a mindfulness practice, focussing on self-love as part of this is an easy way to start. Having a clear focus for your mindfulness practice, and cues to gently reaffirm your intention can better help you connect with it.” Stephanie Rep and Phoebe Morley.
