How To Stop Your Body Clock

Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Pinterest

You may not be able to hear it tick but you can certainly see the result of your body’s internal clock ticking away. Having a lifestyle that is high in alcohol, cigarettes, little exercise and poor diet, is the quickest way to increase early ageing. Nutritionist Zoe Bingley-Pullin shares five easy tips to stop the internal clock ticking away from you.

1.Water is a fantastic way to keep your body and mind alert.

The body requires 2.4L of liquid each day. It is a proven fact that even slight dehydration can leave you lethargic, increase headaches, and slow your metabolism. Drink filtered water as it has less heavy metals and impurities.

2.Lack of sleep has been proven to be a contributing factor in weight gain and the dreaded ‘middle-age spread’.

Not getting your six to eight hours of sleep per night means that the body has less energy to function properly. This will increase your requirement of quick releasing energy foods such as coffee and sweet foods. If you find it hard to get to sleep try drinking hot milk with a small amount of honey. Milk contains tryptophan, which is a precursor for serotonin uptake or supplement with 600mg magnesium at night.

3.Poor digestion not only puts on weight but it makes it harder for the body to get rid of toxins effectively.

As you get older your body’s digestion naturally slows down. Having a diet that is high in natural insoluble and soluble fibre is the most effective way to keep a healthy digestive system. Try having either a daily freshly squeezed vegetable juice or adding one tablespoon of Psyllium husks to water or sprinkle on your cereal.

4.Add antioxidants to your diet.

Antioxidants have a powerful healing effect on the body. Antioxidants help to kill free radicals that can damage the body’s cell and cause premature aging. Vitamin C, Vitamin A or Beta-Carotene, Vitamin E, Co enzyme Q10, Spirulina or Barley green and Vitamin Bs are very powerful antioxidants. Alternatively try adding more garlic, lightly steamed carrots or beetroot, and all types of berries to your diet.

5.Don’t over eat.

Overeating is not only a quick way to gain unnecessary fat but it puts a massive stress on the body. The average person over eats by 30%. Next time you are sitting in front of the dinner plate remove 30% from your plate and save it for a snack later.
